Aftermarket HeadlightsLearn about Aftermarket HeadlightsWhen looking for an accessory that changes the look of your vehicle in minutes then you must address your headlights. The earlier models of vehicles all have about the same looking headlights. They are ugly. They weren’t meant or designed to be stylish just do what they are supposed to do….put light in front of your vehicle so you can drive at night. Aftermarket headlights have become a booming business. Everywhere you look some company has the latest and greatest lights. Check them out thoroughly before you buy. Some companies have been know to put a disclaimer at the bottom of the box or advertising telling you that the lights are not legal for street use. So look carefully and ask questions. Aftermarket headlights have a huge variance is prices. If you buy the cheap ones your normally getting what you pay for and they will not last. You need to read all of the fine print to make sure they are DOT and SAE approved. If they are not or do not say they are then been cautious. Without those approvals they are not street legal and you will get ticketed before you get where you’re going. If the lights do not have an amber side marker they are not legal. All DOT and SAE approved lighting has some kind of amber reflector in the corners. You can fix this problem by making sure your running an amber bulb. But so many people are looking for the “clean” look that they put clear bulbs in to clean up the look. A white signal light is not legal. Do your research on the lights your interested in. Look through the forums sites and see if others have had them. Some of the ones on the market are built cheap. They leak when it rains, the fog over and eventually blow the bulb. Just because you found them cheap doesn’t mean it’s a good deal. You can buy aftermarket lights and upgrade your driving light bulbs. This will add to the light output. There are many different bulbs on the market. Some are blue tinted to resemble HID lights. HID is short for High Intensity Discharge. You see these types of lights on the high-end cars like BMW, Acura and others. There are now kits to upgrade your lights to HID systems. They are not cheap but they do greatly increase the light output. If you are planning to upgrade a set of aftermarket headlights to an HID system talk to the company that makes them. If they are not made to handle the extra heat you will melt them quick. That much heat has to have ventilation. If your lights are set up that way they will become a fire hazard. |
